The diplomatic, economic, and military presence of the US is an undeniably powerful force in maintaining a certain "world order." I can't imagine trump as being anything other than a Putin wannabe, but not as good at it as Putin is. Putin is hungry for power, influence, and reach in Europe, asia, and the middle east--where there are plenty of natural resources. He's willing to use brutal force and devious tactics, and I think he's hoping he can stroke Trump's endless ego and need for approval "from the popular kids" to trick him into a buddy buddy relationship. Because Trump has no guiding principles or vision for geopolitics, he's an easy rube.
Europe will observe this relationship as traitorous, feel insecure and pull away from the US, seeking leadership elsewhere.
