Another idea is a little stone grave marker.

Wow, that is really thoughtful of you. Kudos and keep making the world a kinder place. I put my dog down in April and had to find comfort in meh text messages.

My sisters sent me flowers and my vet sent me a plant the day after we had to put our dog down. I really appreciated both and we still have the plant despite several moves since he died.

As a lifelong dog lover, who has posted here many times. I love this idea. Our vet did this for us. And every birthday and Christmas I make a donation to the rescue group my dog came from. Her's was Save-a-Sato, but Lost Dog & Cat rescue, Humane Society, any will be great. That and the personal visit (where you gush over the dog) are wonderful. I say gush over the dog, because everyone believes (as they should), that their dog is the greatest, best dog to ever live.

I have a friend who very thoughtfully gave us a framed photo of our dog after he died. I immediately displayed it and it has been there, where we can see it every day, ever since.

Be prepared for your friends to be complete wrecks, I was a disaster for a solid month after we had to put my dog down.

Anything you bring will be lovely and thoughtful. I think just the fact that you are going to see the pup one last time is very supportive.

I'm going by on Friday night to say goodbye. Very sad. The dog has cancer in his spine. Is there something I should take to the family. A card? A little treat (dog is pretty high on drugs right now). A little bear.

I don't know, but I do know that I love my dog and this would be very sad.
