I can't imagine tagging along with the host to the grocery store, choosing items, and then not offering to pay.

Go to Aldi and you will halve the bill.

Your fruit is now grapes and bananas and apples. Your vegetables are now baby carrots and celery. Just capital B Basics for these moochers! No cherries, raspberries, artichokes...

I just wouldn't buy any more fruit than usual. When its gone, its gone. If they want more, they will go buy it.

I agree with PP that they are likely eating so much fruit because they aren't eating what they are used to. Perhaps they don't feel comfortable cooking in your kitchen or don't feel like cooking on vacation. However, that is their problem, not yours.

Go to Costco.

Tell us more. What is the relation and how long is the stay? How often?

OP, you know we DCUM jurors need all the facts before we can reach a verdict.

If it is his parents, you pay. Otherwise cut the trip to once a week. That is insane and they should pay.

Who are these people? Is it dh's parents? I get that it's irritating, but you might have to let it go. Though I'm curious what they're eating that adds up to so much money!

How are the house guests related to you and your DH and what are the circumstances of their staying with you?

But they won't take themselves to the grocery store to buy more, my husband takes them and, since he's a wuss, it ends up being a $100 shopping spree on our credit card four times a week.

Not sure if I want to stick around for another week of this. FYI, we both go to work M-F so it's not like we're raising the fruit basket 5x a day.

it'a more if the principle (houseguests for a long time) than the money. Tho I do feel taken advantage of and they do not eat like this at their home.

It is about the money because if it were not you would be posting about their behavior. Tell them to go buy their own food.

If they don't eat like that at home, how do they eat? Are they subbing fruit at your house because there's nothing else for them to eat (that they like?). I'm not faulting you at all, I'm just trying to figure out why they are doing what they are doing.

Are they capable of getting themselves to the grocery store? If so, I'd stop offering to take them.

How do you know how many fruits and veggies they eat in their own home?
