Babette's Feast, Enchanted April, Whale Rider, Angels and Insects.

This last one isn't as enjoyable of a movie as the others, but the costumes are absolutely stunning. It also shows how rigged the Oscars are for big box office smashes, b/c The English Patient beat it out for the best costume Oscar for basically dressing everyone in white shirts and khaki...snore.

One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen is a Japanese movie called "Maborosi." Pretty much impossible to find now.

Also, how old are your kids? Hayao Miyazaki movies are fantastic for kids and adults.

OP here. This request is for me. I wouldn't let my kids watch those directors.

Op again, don't care if it a theater or home movie either.

Need some new artsy movie suggestions. I love directors like Peter Greenaway, Wes Anderson, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Since I have small kids I have fallen out of the artistic movie loop. Can you suggest a visually beautiful/interesting movie?
