Agreed. I'm not saying that choosing CC is an immature decision at all. It can be quite the mature decision for a variety of reasons, financial or otherwise. But any student is bound to further mature once he/she has a year or two under the college belt. I would think that would be appreciated by admissions when re-evaluating a particular student.

Have him apply widely now. Wait till graduation and all of a sudden all his friends are going away. He will most likely want to go away to college, too.

Interesting question, but sorry, have no idea of answer. I'd like to think they'd appreciate the maturity that comes with experience. Maybe choose a few to apply to this year while holding back some others he likes so at least a few are new to apply to should he go to CC first.

My rising high school senior son is unsure whether he wants to go away to a 4 year school this September, or start off at Community College and transfer in a year or two. He's taking a few community college classes through Dual Enrollment this year and would like to make the decision in the spring after he sees how he does in the classes as well as where he gets in.

My question is, if he applies to a school now and doesn't get in, how does that impact his chances at the same later.

And, conversely

If he declines an offer from a school, how does that impact his chances.if he reapplies later?
