Toss a coin, can't go wrong with either choice. Both are beautiful places to visit.

They are both nice. But in Nov, I would do Savannah. St Augustine may keep you entertained for longer in summer when you can also go to the beach. Otherwise an afternoon there is enough. Savannah is a nice weekend though.

St Augustine is also much more ocean focused (Savannah river - but pretty downtown area feels very boxed in) The Midnight book stuff is pretty overdone at this point too. If you like golf/tennis- look into staying in one of the rentals available at The Landings in Savannah. It is about 15-20 minutes out of the city but beautiful "golf community" that feels more like a nature preserve (I don't do golf!)

I would take Savannah over Charleston. I like the wide promenades in Savannah. We stay at the Westin and take the free shuttle boat over to downtown Savannah.

Great suggestion!
Savannah is a very nice small city. Fine for a long weekend, but not much more than that.
Although I've never been, I understand that Charelston is much more lively. It's on my bucket list.
Never been to St. Augustine so I can't comment.

We go to St. Augustine fairly often as it's near my in-laws and it would be fine for a weekend trip. You can see the old fort, walk around the town, and head over to the beach. There are also quite a few nice restaurants.

I always liked the idea of Savannah, so we went last year, and the town seemed dead. It did not live up to my expectations. I should mention that it was mid August, perhaps it's more lively in the fall.

here's a handy article on what to do when you are there:

Just you two? I loved Savannah.

With kids, definitely St Augustine because there's more to do for kids.

DH and I want to go away for a couple days in November, and he found really cheap tickets for St. Augustine, FL and Savannah, GA. Does anyone recommend either?
