Mine is almost 14. I get the required 1st day letter and then nothing unless there is a problem or she needs money for the camp store. He isn't going to write or text or call when he goes to college either.

+100. I could only wish this was a concern for my kid. So much bigger issues we deal with.

When I went to overnight camp for the first time (4 weeks).), my first few letters were horrible. My dad hid them from my mom because they were SO bad. Once they started improving, he showed her the letters. When they picked me up, I begged to stay for another session. I went to camp for 6 summers until I had to get a job.

DS is away for the first time this summer. He left Sunday. I still havent received a letter but no news is good news I think. I've seen a few pics of him smiling and participating so I know my baby is safe and happy

That was funny. When my mom went to Girl Scout camp they made them write home. She figured she didn't have a whole of to say so she just folded up a piece of blank paper and sent it. Her parents were a bit dismayed. A few years back when my daughter went to the same camp she sent a blank piece of paper to her grandma who found it very amusing.

What is the point of forcing him to write a letter? Writing letters with random sentences on them is probably the last thing on earth he wants to do while at camp. It's not fun for him. What do you get out of it? If you asked him if he'd rather stay home or write 4 letters home from camp, he'd probably rather stay home. It's ridiculous that you are angry over this.

Both my kids are at overnight camp, but only for two weeks. We will receive one letter each(as we have in the past). The letter will be 1-3 lines long. That is what it is supposed to be like unless they need something. OP, don't worry. Your kid is having way to much fun to stop and write you a letter. I remember my letters home were "Hi. I'm having fun. Gotta go. Love, me". Honestly, if there were something terribly wrong the camp would get in touch with you. Let it go.

Yes, you're crazy. Kids reach out to their parents only when there's a problem, while they're away. Didn't you send him to camp to have fun and maybe gain a little independence? Well, he's doing that. Get over yourself.

12 yr old boys do not enjoy writing letters, to anyone at all. Don't be passive aggressive by sending him a blank letter. Firstly, it's immature. Secondly, he probably would just show it to all his friends/bunkmates/whoever is around and they'd all laugh and be like "What the hell is this?" and he'd go "My mom is so weird" and then throw it out.

Honestly, get over yourself. Don't mention it to him.

12 y.o. DS has attended same sleep away camp for 3 years. This year he has written one postcard, two days in when all campers are required to do so, and we are fairly dismayed. Before camp we discussed his writing twice/week. Basically he only needs to write three lines on a card, stick a stamp on it, and drop in the camp post box. I basically want to send him a blank letter to convey our disappointment. Crazy?
