I don't love my elementary school, but we are getting a new principal this year, so maybe things will improve.

This is the OP. Sounds like the AAP Centers are great for AAP kids but perhaps less than ideal for General Ed. That's good to know--thanks.

FCPS teacher here - very few aap kids are actually smarter. It's a mixed bag of "has pushy parents," works really hard (but is in no way brilliant), and developed early or was redshirted. Here and there a true genius - but it's rare.

Did not love Wolftrap ES- many neighbors with older kids than ours were also lukewarm.

Even if you have a "smart" kid, they need to learn to get on with the rest of the world. Segregating them or any other subgroup of kiddos isn't right. I see that as a huge issue with FFX schools. There's a box for everyone and everyone stays in their box.

It's been bashed, but I loved Parklawn for my kids. My oldest is leaving to go to the center, but I was impressed with the school. It's not the highest scoring, but they did a great job pushing my kid while meeting the needs of the other kids. For example, my DD actually went to a different grade level classroom for reading since she was ahead of the rest of the class. She actually finished the year with a DRA above the grade level she had spent working with that year.

CW but I doubt is it any different elsewhere. Kids know. It's a horrible education model, IMO

We were not pleased with Canterbury Woods. Could have been happier.

Loved Wolftrap ES, or at least everything apart from the large class sizes. Just a really friendly community with nice kids, involved parents, and committed teachers.

We've been very, very pleased with Canterbury Woods (AAP). Great teachers, great principal and counselors, strong PTA, and lots of activities. Couldn't be happier.

I'm not talking about just loving one particular teacher or class, but really feeling like you won the lottery because the whole package has been such a great experience.

If so, which school and what do you love about it? It would also be helpful if folks could specify whether their experience is with General Ed or AAP.
