I was going to suggest this. If you hang it on the panelling then it won't matter if it scuffs the wall since you plan to remove it later.

In terms of color, does the playroom get a lot of natural light? Do you have furniture that you will know will be in that room and what the color/wood tones are already?

Not sure about the natural light but it has tall windows so I would think so. The furniture that we have is mostly shelving that is dark/espresso brown.

I did BM Hawthorne Yellow in the playroom and I painted over paneling. I love it.

I would not do chalk wall on panel. Panel is difficult to paint. You need to use a primer that smells like mustard gas and even then, the top coat scratches easily.

We did a chalkboard wall in DD's room. It's fun but do not do it over paneling!! If the wall is not perfectly smooth, the chalk will not draw smoothly and will be hard to erase. Your kids will get frustrated. Our wall has just the slightest texture and despite four coats of chalkboard paint, it's still hard to use. And it's dusty. I wouldn't do it again unless it was on brand-new smooth drywall.

I would take that paneling out asap. Why waste the money painting it only to take it down in a few years. If you are set on keeping it up i would pick an off-white color. Paneling painted a color looks really cheap.

What color are the other rooms on the main floor?

Go with a variant of the shades in the other rooms. Use eggshell, not flat, paint--easier to clean.

I'm terrible at picking paint colors so looking for the design gurus at DCUM for help. Moving into a new house this month and need to paint a room that we will use for the kids playroom. The room is currently wood paneling and we will just paint over the paneling (eventually we will drywall but waiting until the kids no longer need the room as a play room). The room is on the main level of the house so want something fairly neutral but bright and fun for the kids (two boys).

Also, was thinking about painting one wall as a chalk wall--any experience with this?

Would love any playroom advice/ideas you have!
