Smith Mtn. Lake is perfect. Lake Anna is closer but not as nice IMO.

Gross.

Lakes in Maryland and Virginia are dank and gross. Head to the Adirondacks, NH, or Vermont.

Take a look at Lake Naomi in the Poconos. Quiet, and, almost a throw-back to the 70's. There is a club on the Lake you can rent water craft, etc.
Smith Mtn Lake in Virginia seems very popular.

How about Lake Como? If it's good enough for Clooney, it should be good enough for the rest of us peons? No?

I don't have any specific lake recommendations in the Poconos, but will say if you're looking for kayaking, pay attention to the boating regulations on the lake. For example, Lake Wallenpaupack is pretty big, but is very busy with motor boats. I don't think it'll give you the experience you're looking for.

Maryland's Eastern Shore - rent a house on one of the rivers/coves/creeks. The open bay may be too rough, weather depending, for kayaking. If the house doesn't supply kayaks, you can rent them during your stay. Note that in late summer, jelly fish sometimes make it up to Rock Hall. If you want to be clear of jelly fish, stay north of Worton Creek.

You could do Lake Anna or Deep Creek Lake if you need something close. Options that involve a bit more of a drive include the Finger Lakes or Adirondacks in New York. In the Finger Lakes, maybe focus on Skaneateles Lake or Cayuga Lake and in the Adirondacks, take a look at Lake George, Lake Placid, and Saranac Lake.

Dreaming of a nice cabin/house by a lake to relax with our almost 3-year-old daughter. Not really into camping so would prefer something more comfy and well set-up. Would love to be able to walk out of the house and get into a kayak.

Any recommendations? I started looking into the Poconos but there are so many options, got a little overwhelmed. Drivable from Baltimore/DC is a plus.

Thanks!
