This is ridiculous, and your DD while introvert is not self absorbed? These are HER friends, that she wants to hang out, and kids today have many friends, and not that just one precious friend. She is 16 years old, myob.

It's really about her. I worry about her feeling hurt and left out. I know it happens to everyone but I think she wishes she had that one best friend, and she's just not in that environment.

Your attitude is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? Back off and don't invest so much in her friendships. Kids at this age don't make that many lifelong friends.

This is a constant internal fear that I have. I just can't help feeling that the girls my daughter gravitates to most, are not true friends and aren't really there for her when she needs them. They all seem to be completely self-absorbed and looking/waiting for the better plan or offer. I know she needs to make her own choices but it's so hard to watch. She's also more introverted so she isn't really one to reach out and initiate things and is also inattentive, so doesn't really respond to opportunities, which can lead to her missing out. It's so frustrating when there are plenty of nice girls I wish she would make time for.
