That's Vienna for you though. Always laid back and expecting the parents to do this kind of stuff.

Or expecting parents to know how to summer?

People compare Vienna to Mclean as if the schools are similar, but Mclean schools are just better run than Vienna schools.

I hope you are basing this conclusion on something other than summer assignments in MS! That doesn't really seem like a solid basis for measuring the teaching or administration of the Vienna schools. From what I have observed, Thoreau is a very positive place.

This is just one of many things but symbolic of the fact that teachers in Vienna aren't strong and don't follow through. And the teachers at Madison seem to disagree with you. Thoreau kids generally come in much less prepared than kids from Jackson.

We do not give summer work at my middle school. When we did, only about 10% of students came back even having attempted it, and maybe half of those had completed it.

What some posters here suggest is the worst MS in FCPS, Poe MS, has summer assignments.

Depends on the poverty level. If it's higher the greater chance there will be no assignments or less work required.

Not a problem.

There are only a few FCPS middle schools that don't have a specific assignment. I am 100% sure that ALL the FCPS middle schools require students to read over the summer, though.

To me, this is something that FCPS should centralize.

In years past, I've seen summer "assignments" posted on school websites. (a required reading list or a math packet). I'm not seeing that this year as my child is entering MS.

Have these summer assignments gone by the wayside?
