I'm a guy and I can tell you I do care about texting. It's not the format - it's communication. So if I texted like "hey I had a great time" and don't get a reply I think she didn't have a good time. Ignore my reasonable texts and I will move on because it will certainly be indicative that you aren't in to me. I don't mean massive texting. But appropriate texting.

Really? Never sent a text that went unanswered and wondered why you didn't get a reply?

No. I don't like to text, period. Texts are transactional (how close are you? Movie starts in 10). If you want to converse, phone, e-mail, or some other way where you can share more than a few words at a time.

I'm the same way, but my brain also pretty much consistently tests as more male than female. I also don't enjoy talking on the phone. It's hard because my two closest female friends are both homemakers and they crave adult conversation. I'm all about the phone as a tool for getting stuff done. I can text back and forth for 10 minutes, get distracted, and the next day realize the last text was never answered. And I'm ok with that.

What are these tests for maleness versus femaleness of a brain?

Men don't think this way, right? If they're not in serious courting (or cheating) mode, then I don't think men give a second thought about frequency of texts. True?

Women keep score. Women play games. Men (usually) do not.

This is news to you?

And find it very interesting that guys aren't chiming in. But maybe they just don't care to.

Few single guys are here.

I was confused when receiving smiley faces from female friends who had no intention of ever dating me. Why would you do that to a guy you know would like to go out with you?

If it's a text to a friend about what time to meet up or to my sister about dry-cleaning, or whatever, of course not.

If it's to a attractive person of the opposite sex, then, yes, I constantly check my phone for the reply. Sorry but I do.

My thought is that guys (unless they're texting male friends) wait just as anxiously for a ping back.

Depends on the guy. I know some that care and some that don't. As a woman, I really don't care. I text and usually forget almost right away.
