Don't listen to the naysayers about GWL. Your DS would have a blast. Around Christmas-time they have nightly snowfalls - it's a fun getaway.

Know what I really appreciate about GWL? Everything is indoors. That is 2 days (or 1) of not having to deal with putting on coats, heavier clothes. I always found that to be heaven when the kids were smaller.

Savannah could be an excellent destination. Eight hour drive away.

A friend with older kids did an on-the-fly road trip down the Florida Atlantic coast, and made it almost to WPB before turning around and returning north.

Also check what airfare is like to Charleston, SC. We got ridiculously cheap fares to get there over spring break this year.

This is OP. Charleston was a thought too - I went a few years ago and loved it.

Leaning towards Williamsburg - couple nights near the historic part (maybe with a trip to Christmas Town) and possibly 1-2 nights at GWL.

Consider the GWL isn't just a hotel, you have water park access and what not too.

Are you saying to skip Great Wolf Lodge?

I was considering 2 nights somewhere around Colonial Williamsburg (I vaguely remember a Hampton Inn), and 2 nights at Great Wolf Lodge. Does that seem like a fun xmas getaway? DS actually loves talking about founding fathers (thank you Hamilton soundtrack) so I think he might enjoy the history.

Better value or cheaper?

Cheaper for what you get (since i've heard mixed reviews about GWL) - which I think would be the definition of better value.

I looked a couple days later in the week and it's more like $350, so that's more palatable.

Any suggestions?

I'd like to go away for a few days at xmas. Maybe like the 24th-28th or something. While I'd love to go somewhere warm, I don't really want to spend $$$$ so i'd be open to a more local getaway. Where have you gone at the holidays that you've really enjoyed?

I know Williamsburg has a lot going on. Anywhere else?
