Ok - OP here. Should I contact the potential employer today? Hiring manager had said he would get back to me Friday before the 4th, or maybe Tuesday the 5th.

OP here - yes, I agree that this is the mature and patient approach. A large part of my impatience stems from not knowing if I am/was the only final candidate. Ah well.

Tuesday as in the day after a holiday? If yes, give it til Monday. At my work we run on a skeleton crew this week and last week. A reference check would likely be set aside for today, tomorrow, or Monday

Hiring manager asked for my references last week and he said that he'd get back to me by this past Tuesday. He hasn't. I don't know if I am the only candidate or if there is another final candidate (or more).

When do I follow up with him?
