OP here! When my stepson went to a three week session, we mailed a few days in but for his shorter sessions, we mailed right after we dropped him off. We plan to do the same for dd. If your kid is doing a four week program, I'd wait about a week. It can take a long time for those packages to get all the way to your kid. The camp office usually has a good idea of how long. We usually aim for arrival about halfway through the session.


For short sessions, you can also mail the day before. For me, in summer camp as a kid, it was such a thrill to be the kid that got a carepackage. Makes you kind of a celebrity. So don't send with your kid, that's not the point.

OP once more. And thanks for the suggestion. We have a box prepped with mad libs, glow bracelets, and, two of my daughters latest obsessions - the Guinness book of world records and stick on mustaches.

Batteries for flashlight. Glow bracelets for entire cabin. Disposable camera. Pillow case with handwritten message from you and other members of family, (wash to get rid of weird smell from pen.) Madlibs.

Thanks for the great ideas! My brother's kids have gone to this camp for years, and they suggested things that they kids can share and have social fun with ...so these sound perfect. My last care packages were for my stepson, and that camp allowed food, so it was basically a candyfest.

I sent mad libs, light up glasses and rings, small puzzles, balloons to make water balloons, bracelets with sayings on them, hair chalk, removable tattoos and special pens. I found a bunch of this in the Target dollar bins. I found small games/puzzles in the toy section as well. In the past I've sent a small fold up travel basketball game and packets of lightsticks to share with the cabin.

Any suggestions? I want to put together a food-free care package for my 8 year old DD's first week at overnight camp. She's bringing plenty of books and has a flashlight with her. Other fun ideas?
