I am so glad, Laura is not on now. What an awful accent. Please keep her off the air or I have to turn off TV news. What a shame.

Laura's accent is a particularly ripe example of what is called "Estuarial English," the accent of the region known as the Thames Estuary, the area covering several counties—Kent, Sussex, Essex, etc—surrounding London. It's not Cockney, but a rather common (in the English sense) lower-middle-class accent. It's quite non-u, darlings, but nowadays rather ubiquitous. It does sound atrocious, and Laura's is particularly egregious, but she's a sweetie pie notwithstanding. Very sexy eyebrows.

Well, as long as the little lassie is a grand view. What do you people want? Maybe she should ruin her vocal cords like Lauren Bacall? Really? Her voice? Why aren't any of you critiquing the foul things coming out of certain mouths on the TV here in the US? Oh, sorry, it's not 9 yet.

Gads, I thought I was the only one. I can't stand watching Laura Trevelyan, despite her background of reporting. Her voice, rises and falls making it hard to follow what she's saying, she screeches her vowels like a cat stepped on her tail, maybe having a husband the head of ABC gives her 'diplomatic' immunity and makes her target-proof in her job. I can't bear to watch or hear her speak. She's nice to look at but that's about it.

Wow, I looked up her where her accent is from and am relieved to know that I am not the only one to find her voice unlistenable! Ye gods, she sounds like a cross between caterwauling and fingernails down a chalkboard. Poor woman.
