Mmmm, no. My parents are are in laws and they are perfect. FYI my white in laws are wonderful too. Have another friend whos Indian parents are wonderful and really close to her DH.

All these Indians I speak of are very assimilated, if that matters.

My wife and every member of her generation in her family married someone white. I wouldn't call any of them preppy though.

I have a group of Indian/Pakistani/Arab girlfriends. Each one of us almost exclusively dates white guys. None of us has ever had trouble attracting white guys. The guys that have mostly shown interest tend to be redneck-like, small town military men. Or hipsters. One nerdy engineer is dating my Pakistani friend quite seriously. His family seem to love her.

Are your parents very traditional? Are they religious? Did you attend Dartmouth like Mindy Kaling and have a big circle of preppy Dartmouth friends like her?

Conservative preppy types are not going to be interested, at least not for serious relationships.

Yes. Never had a problem with the parents. Maybe they liked that mine were doctors, idk.

Yes. That said, there will likely be lots of cultural clashes if you're looking for something serious. I dated quite a few when I was in my 20s and it worked great since I didn't want to get too serious. We partied, we traveled, we tried out all the hottest restaurants/lounges. I had a good time but I doubt anything beyond that would have worked out well.

Preppy American parents will often (note I know this is a generalization and not everyone is like this) view you as 'exotic' and your culture as inferior. The guys are great but unless they are headstrong enough to not let their parents superiority complex influence them, its not a situation I would marry into.

So yes and go for it OP, but go with your eyes wide open and more for the fun.

Yes. My super waspy friend married an Indian woman and they lived happily ever after. One of his kids has bright red hair but otherwise looks totally Indian (dark eyes, Indian features etc.) She's gorgeous.

I am an early 30s Indian woman who is pretty taken by the American preppy culture. I am very attracted to white preppy guys. Would I have a shot?
