I don't necessarily think it's strange that you haven't received any information yet, but I also don't think it's unreasonable to contact the school and ask for some names/contact info for potential play dates. Seems like a good admissions director would be happy to help you with this.

Play dates? Is that really something you expect the school to arrange? I have never heard of that. Sometimes a class get together will be held in late August but not throughout the summer. Since you received summer reading I will assume we aren't talking PK here. I have to agree...chill out. Your expectations seem awfully high.

+1 It isn't even the end of June yet and your child will make friends on Day One even if there isn't a playdate over the summer. Slow your roll or you are going to make enemies before you even start at this school.

Give them a chance to breath! Most independent schools in the area only completed the year within the last few weeks (my kids' school hasn't even been out for a full 2 weeks!). I think you need to chill...you will get the information within plenty of time for your kid to be prepared for school. In the meantime, enjoy your summer and have your child read the book they sent to you. It will all be good!

I find that hard to believe that they want give you names of a few families in your incoming grade. Yes the directory is probably not printed yet but I am sure if you explain that you would like to arrange for a few play dates, they will give you the contact info.

This happened to me but I think if you just relax that the school will definitely find ways of making you feel comfortable. My daughter's new school said the same thing about August. It will be enough time to reach out, really.

I'd be nervous of both the lack of communication, and the parent's comment.
We loved all the summer events and group playdates that my son's school had when he started. Really helped ease him in.
Are you getting any emails from the school? Are you sure they have your email correct?

Ask for a list of families and students in your grade.
