Yeah, if you freak out about this and get mad, you're going to make him think twice about what he tells you the truth about in the future. Make it a learning experience & tell him that you think it was a bad decision and that he should do better next time. How old is he? He probably didn't mean to spend so much. I got "tricked" into upgrading my hair cut last week because the stylist wasn't upfront that she was going to charge me for something that I didn't even ask for. Now I know for next time.

My husband spent $19 on lunch today. He took a silly picture while there too. It was funny.

Field trips are only a few times a year. Give the kid a pass. Maybe he bought for his friend ?

Wow. I spent $20.31 on lunch today at the Ferry Building in SF.

If he ate all the food he bought, it wasn't wasteful. And if you gave him a $20 and didn't say "I expect $10 back" or whatever, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

Maybe he bought a friend lunch because the friend didn't have any. Whatever the case, you look like the asshole here.

How old is he? What was the price of a meal at the food court? Lots of places (like the Smithsonians for example) are very pricey for a basic lunch.

Depending on where it was...food courts can be 12-15 dollars for a lunch.

i just can't believe it. nobody needs an $18 lunch at food court. it is so wasteful. i don't know if it's peer pressure but i hope not. poor, poor judgement no matter what. i was so mad i didn't even want to hear about the trip, or even talking to him...
