Under $5K from an independent dealer (not one of the chain fireplace showrooms). About $3000 for a higher-end direct vent unit (electronic ignition, remote, thermostat, etc.), $1000 for delivery and install and another $500+ for a mason to cut a hole in a brick exterior wall (we did not have an existing chimney and vented it horizontally). That did NOT include gas work, we were replacing the gas mains throughout the house at the same time and it was a minimal extra cost to have the plumber branch a line in the basement. Price also didn't include any carpentry for the new mantel and surround.

yes, we had a similar price.

We've gotten one estimate of 6000-7000. I had thought it was closer to 5,000 but wondering if this is a fair price.
our estimate was around 5k including the gas work and assuming you already have gas.
