We started on Pro Plan as that is what the vet recommended. We've been on Taste of the Wild now for years, different flavors. Our pet food store finds TOTW to kind of hit the sweet spot for being a high quality food at a decent price.

When we first got our puppy I googled "what's a good dog food". Who knew what a can of worms that question was!

OP, you are right that Purina is not a very good quality food.

To switch dog foods, make the change slowly over a period of time, e.g. two weeks. Add a little of the new food on Day 1, and then each day increase the amount of the new food relative to the old. By the end of ten days or two weeks, your pup will be on the new food without having had transition issues wrt digestion.

We feed dry food and mix in a little wet (of the same brand) every couple of days.

FWIW, check with your breeder or maybe a dog-specific forum. I have a lab and the forum I frequent has a lot of owners and breeders who strongly suggest not changing food right away. If she's working well on pro plan, what is your motivation for switching? Changing puppies from food to food to food, especially when they're so little, isn't worth the hassle.

I never thought I'd feed a purina food, but my breeder has bred over a dozen champions, so I assume I can trust that she feeds her dogs only something that works for them. We may switch once our puppy is grown and we are transitioning to an adult food, but for now if it's working for your puppy what would motivate you to change?

We BARF our dogs.

We have used taste of the wild for years. We only use the dry food, but that's just personal preference for my dog. I'm pretty sure they have canned food if you want that for your dog.

We used Orijen for our Persian Himalayan cat for the past 8 years and she does have a beautiful shiny coat, zero health issues and is not overweight (feeds herself on demand). We decided then to go with Orijen puppy when we got our puppy this winter and she is doing great on it as well. No allergies, healthy shiny coat and nice muscle bulk. She is 8 months now. She had an upset tummy 2 times when ate a treat at the puppy store and we gave her plain cooked rice with plain ground chicken mixed 50/50 for 3 days. Sometimes we give her plain yogurt, hard boiled egg, all kinds of fruit, cheese stick, piece of chicken or fish, peanut butter as treats.

Breeder had her on Purina Pro Plan, which is very popular on the breeder circuit, although she was in the process of switching her older dogs to Royal Candid(?).

Puppy is 6mos old and still doing very well on Pro Plan.
