I've never been on July 4, but I was there in late July one year, and it was so hot I felt like I might spontaneously combust just walking around. I'd go in October. Or February.

I've been on July 4th weekend although it was many years ago. It was crowded but still very enjoyable. I think it sounds like a really nice trip for your family.

Have fun and update us when you get back!

And the heat. There's no a/c if you pop in and out of colonial section of DOG street. It's shaded which helps, but walking and standing can tire you out quickly in the heat.
BG will be crowded. No doubt. Maybe Water Country will be ok though.

Assuming we could even find a hotel room at this point, am I crazy to plan a trip to Colonial Williamsburg for the long weekend? Kids are 8.5 and 11, and we've never been there. If you don't think I'm crazy and you have advice on where to stay and other ideas, please share! Thanks!

We went to williamsburg for the 4th and had a great time (though it stormed during the fireworks). It was busy but not overwhelming. I definitely recommend going.
