Do you think she might need medication? That would be the prime reason to visit a psychiatrist.
If you think she's more in need of someone to talk to, you might want to seek out a counselor.
There's no harm in doing both. Most psychiatrists don't accept insurance, so you'll need to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed later if she has health insurance or is still covered by yours.
If she doesn't have insurance and needs to talk with someone, The Women's Center has counseling, different locations, and will accept payment on a sliding scale:
