Children have to use the bathroom, why wouldn't they leave and come back?

This reminds me of a priest in our church when I was growing up. Some people would walk straight out the back instead of returning to their pews after communion, so he started having an usher string a line of rope behind the rear pews just before communion and leave it there until "go in peace."

Although my family was not among the miscreants we switched churches at that point. He sucked.

After last year's shooting I don't think this is strange at all. And as long as you can open the door from the inside (like how schools are locked) then it wouldn't be a fire hazard.

It does seem odd that they wouldn't have announced the practice, but maybe there was a specific threat?

That is the strangest thing I have ever heard of (Catholic here).

Is this your first time at this church or the first time this has happened?

If it is the latter, mention it to the parish office.

If it is the former, mention it and perhaps find another church.

That is VERY strange. I'm a life-long churchgoer, preacher's kid, very active in church affairs, and I've never heard of that. I'd send an email to someone in leadership to ask about it, just to make sure it wasn't a rogue usher. (We have a rogue usher who likes to make people throw away drinks, so I just avoid her as I bring in my latte through another door.) If locking the doors is actually church policy or accepted practice, I would look for another church.

It was the strangest thing. I waited 10 minutes or so until a lady came to open the door. Later I noticed she was standing by the door but not letting other people in when they were knocking. I just sort of rolled my eyes at her and let the people in and then went home. It really made me so mad and I can't figure out why. It's unlike me to get so upset.

It kind of caught me off guard today that they locked the door. I was a few minutes late. Is this a thing?
