The other thing to keep in mind is scheduling. As the mom, you often have the kids every other weekend and 4 nights during the week--1 evening free during the week. As the dad, you often have the kids every other weekend and 1 night during the week--4 evenings free.
As the mom, I'm involved in a lot of my kids activities and volunteer. My one free weeknight is often spent in PTA meetings, Girl Scout planning sessions, GS trainning, swim team booster meetings, etc. i just don't have time to date.
