We've found the problem with backing with with icloud is that it doesn't give enough storage.

If the phone is set up to automatically back up to iCloud, make sure you plug it in to the power adapter in a place where it can connect to WiFi, and it may go ahead and do a current backup for you. Then you can reset it without losing anything.

If you have it set up to only do manual backups, that won't work. But automatic backups to iCloud are the default.

If you have not yet gotten it fixed and she has Siri activated, have her press the button and ask Siri for the time. Her home screen will switch to the time screen, touch that screen and she'll be in her phone

This has happened to me, and yes, I had to do a reset, but isn't everything on icloud anyway?

Call Apple support. they have mainly been helpful. One or two advisors weren't into the customer service model. One actually made me cry.

Apple support is generally good. You have to have patience. Or you can set up a Genius at the Apple store.

And a good lesson for her to be more responsible and note her password somewhere secure ( in her room in a hidden notebook?).

That being said, if you login to your service provider (such as Verizon) it might be listed there.

I understand this is Apple's chosen security feature and in many cases it SUCKS BIG BALLS> Just search the internet and read how many people hate that you have to do a factory re-set after 6 password guesses.

... but I believe many users - like teens do not need FBI-proof security. APple should make two levels of security - one for the common user and one for corporate/national security like(sic) hack proof.

I don't have mine set up that way. "Why on earth" did she? You can't blame someone else for everything, my dear -- your DD forgot her PW, and she didn't back up her phone frequently, AND she didn't have her settings configured not to permanently lock her out after 6 tries. It's not Apple's job to make your DD's life idiot-proof.

Because theft/loss? My work machines lock you out after 3.

It's a tough lesson but she needs to back up her phone every week or so.

Can't you just do a soft reset?

I don't think so. FBI had to pay good $ to get it unlocked.

DD changed her password yesterday and couldn't remember it so she tried the 6 times and is now locked out of her phone - OMG!!!!
My understanding is that Apple can reset her phone but she will loose everything after her last backup which she last did a few months ago.
Is there anything she/Apple can do to get logged back in without a reset?
