OP here. Jesus Christ. Calm down. I've never done this before, that's all. I've know my friend for 32 years so I don't think I'll "blow it" for her. It was a bit weird that they wanted to come to my home.

Many, many investigations are at the person's home, especially since so many people work at home now. OP, they are not investigating you, calm down. No really, calm down. You will not reflect well on your friend at all.

OP here. Thanks for the replies. Good to know this is all normal. I'm a teacher so they are not coming to school. I live alone so I don't want them in my home. I've never gone through this process before so I was just a bit curious about it.

They probably go to your workplace as that is the hours they are working, if you are not home.

They've come to my home many times for friends and my husband. Really, you are overthinking it. Its 10-20 minutes depending on the investigation. They ask basic questions and aren't snooping around your home, etc. They come to the house usually as its easier on you. I never have done it at the office as I was never in a job that would have allowed it.

Totally normal and required (they need to meet face to face to verify you are who you say you are). The most they'll ask about you is how well you know your friend, how long, how you met, etc. As for questions about your friend, they're trying to ascertain whether your friend is trustworthy and if there is anything your friend could be bribed about/over. It's all pretty innocuous stuff.

This is completely normal. They'll ask you a few questions from a sheet about your friend. How long you've known her. Whether you trust her. It's no big deal at all.

A good friend of 30+ years is trying to get a Fed job with a security clearance. She told me she would put my name down as a reference. I got a call today from someone to confirm this and this person on the phone tells me I have to meet with an investigator to answer questions about my friend. The person asked me my address and asked if we could meet at my home. Uh, NO. So now someone else (the actual investigator) is going to call me to set up a mtg at a Starbuck's or some other public place. Is this normal? What kind of questions will they ask? Will they ask anything about me? I don't feel completely comfortable with this.
