Same reason people want a pitbull. Need to feel powerful. It's all they got.
And if you need an AR-15, or a pitbull to feel safe, you probably need to move, like, now.
Bad analogy. Many jurisdictions have, in fact, banned pitbulls.

Strange collection tendencies? I can't imagine how someone feels safer with a load of AR-15s in their house. I personally support having a handgun (a trained, properly vetted individual having a handgun). There have been many cases where users saved themselves and/or their families with a gun.
I'm a moderate on gun control, but let's be realistic here. The Left would not stop at AR-15's. Handgun bans are very real; we've already seen them. So to presume that if everyone would only give up their AR-15's, then everything would be settled, is ridiculous.
And I own NO guns, personally.

Why do you "need" a BMW or a Mercedes?
You don't. You want it. Other people want AR-15s. It's called freedom.
