The fact that you take even a mildly nuanced view towards firearms ownership means you're a gun-grabbing totalitarian in the eyes of the NRA and their ilk.

As far as the broader issue of how to become a single-issue voter, my advice is to get yourself lobotomized. Life isn't single-issue; it boggles my mind that some people think their vote should be.

I'm just so sick of it. I'm sick of reading comments to articles and I'm sick of reading the same tired arguments day after day about how someone's right to a semi-automatic (or not-quite-military-style, or whatever the term people insist you use to demonstrate your "basic knowledge" of guns) weapon trumps my right to live with less fear.

I think target shooting is fun. I'm a pretty good shot. I'm ok with people responsibly keeping hand guns in their homes. I understand living in places or having past experiences that cause you to believe you need to arm yourself for safety. I understand that some people live in towns with crazy mayors and worry that indeed they may need to protect themselves from some low-level government tyrant. Hand guns should do the trick. (If you're talking a larger government takeover, your AR-15 isn't going to hold up against a US Gov drone attack, so that point is moot.)

I don't understand why people feel they deserve to have these mass-killing machines readily available. I truly don't get it. Getting rid of them is not a slippery slope.

What else isn't a slippery slope: Denying people on a God Damn Terrorist Watch list from legally owning and purchasing weapons. What was it they said last year? Your name's addition to the Watchlist could be a mistake and it's inconvenient to get yourself off of it? You have to make some phone calls and write some letters? So do it. You should do that anyway in case you need to fly to see your dying relative. You should do it to clear your name and maintain your integrity. You should have to do it so you can buy your guns.

I no longer live in DC - I'm now in a small New England town. How exactly do I make my vote count for the single issue of responsible gun ownership?
