Maybe both? Definitely the sound though. I have no problem talking about sexy underwear (if the context warrants talk of sexy underwear), but panties sounds gross. For some reason it also has a... maybe almost creepy pedo-y connotation to me. The term just grosses me out I think in more ways than one.

Ugh, my mom is so sweet and made my baby some dresses win the little diaper covers. She will not stop talking about them and calling them panties.

I think those panties with the blue dress fit now. I took the panties for the pink dress home to adjust the size. The green panties go with the yellow dress.

First of all they aren't even panties!! She is a baby who wears a diaper, they are closer to shorts. Babies don't even wear panties!! The word skeeves me out so bad.
