Yes, we've been lucky enough to have been included in birthday parties of family members of our Hispanic nanny for over a decade. They are a big deal, and terrific fun.

In preschool my DC's best friend from was a Latina family and that was the most amazing birthday party we have been to. A relative there told me it is the culture. EVERYONE was invited-siblings and parents. There was ample food and amazing music. It was over-the-top in a good way not in a display of wealth way. Lots of love and happiness.

Can we stop categorizing people's behaviors according to their ethnicity please?

Yes. It is common to invite siblings and their parents to stay. DH and I are middle class Hispanics and we both grew up having siblings invited to our birthday parties. We now always invite siblings to our kids' birthday parties (our kids are 7 and 9). We have never done whole class parties though. We invite 5 or 10 classmates and all siblings.

So my DS was invite to a party this weekend. He went and when we went to pick him up they asked us how come we didn't being his slibings to the party"! It's this common for Hispanics to invite everyone in the family to a birthday party? I fell bad because when we did our party when they asked us if they could we said no.my DS school is about half Hispanics!
