We only camp in cool/cold weather. We love Assateague in the spring, for instance.

The best time would be from November to March but the temperatures are unpredictable. Another option is to get a much higher elevation out west. We went to Santa Fe in the summer and there wasn't a mosquito or gnat to be found.

We were at Cunningham Falls State Park last weekend (cabin) and very, very few mosquitoes.

We've camped a lot in this area and never had a big problem with mosquitos.

+1 Call the ranger station in Assateague and ask them the mosquito situation. They know which sites have them and which ones don't. Generally the end sites near the 100's on the ocean side are clear.

I was about to suggest, New Hampshire. It gets cold there early, and even before school starts it is awesome there.

What others said. Camp in cold weather. If you need it to be warm out, around here is not an option. You'll have to travel to some place dry to go camping if you want hot weather, mosquito-free camping.

This. Mosquitos are very temp sensitive--don't do well in cool weather. So spring or fall generally mosquito-free.

Can anyone recommend a place and time of year to camp with few or no mosquitoes (but with temps that are still reasonably comfortable)? DC and I are mosquito magnets, but I would like to try a camping trip. Suggestions close by and afar are welcome. Thank you!
