I think the sentence was too harsh. The boys got into the car knowing he was impaired.

I hope the Li and Murk families can find some peace in their hearts as time go by. They are in my prayers.

Riding while drunk is not a crime and not a mitigating factor when proving the elements of vehicular manslaughter.

I agree with PP. His sentence is already harsh enough, having killed two of his friends. The 4 year jail term (will serve 1, mostl likely) is too harsh.

Too harsh? Two people are dead. They happened to have been his friends, but he could have killed anyone while driving drunk.

I think it's too lenient.

The party hosting parents deserve jail time, but let's be realistic--the parents of the kids who died knew their kids were drinking. How did they expect them to get home if not with their equally drunk friends. They don't deserve jail time, but their sentence is life long.

Absolutely this! He was driving at speeds up to 100mph! 4 years is WAY too light of a sentence.

There are no innocents in this situation.

The sentence is a minimum, given the driver's 2 prior alcohol convictions and 1 marijuana conviction. Definitely seems like a entitled prick who thinks he's above the law. Prison will teach him to think otherwise.

If he were a kid that made this one bad decision one time maybe I could understand four years, but Ellis is known for a history of bad choices.

This sentence is way too lenient

Why? What's the point? Pure retribution, because after a certain point, length of senetence does not change the deterrent factor -- 4 months or 4 years have the same deterrent effect. He has guilt, he doesn't need 4 years (1 year served) of prison time to feel worse, although he may want the prison time for expiation.

Perhaps the two adults sending off drunk teens out of their party house into their cars should have been charged as the most egregious of all the criminals that night. Good riddance to the Saltzman killers.

The hosting parents of the alcohol party got a little slap on the wrist with a drop in the bucket fine. Outrageous.
