A few of DH's friends from school went on to become professors themselves, and a couple specifically mentioned that the experience on their senior research projects made their dissertations easier.

Like PP's mentioned, the big drawback is that it's in the middle of nowhere. However, for some students, I'd guess that would allow for focus (that may be lacking in a bigger school or more urban environment).

The town of Wooster, Ohio is not that small - there are restaurants and other amenities there.

For many families (including mine), a small-town location is a plus. The logistics of move-in/move-out and visits are very easy, and the COL is low. A student who goes to school in NY or Boston pays for the experience, independently of tuition, room and board.

In no particular order: Opportunities for research; the senior project; merit aid/scholarship money; Scottish roots; general vibe; low-key Greek life.

Why are there 30 brands of detergent? People choose what works for them and what the need. No need to troll college threads.

Why pick Wooster over the other great Ohio liberal arts schools?

In the end, Wooster was DS's second choice, and he ended up getting into his first, so he is going there. However, we know 2 kids from DS's high school who are happily heading to Wooster this fall.

Wooster was very generous with merit aid for DS, FWIW.

+1

DC is going to a different school (also in Ohio!) but we were impressed by Wooster. It is a great school with excellent resources of all kinds.

I meant to say: he liked the *idea* of the senior project.

DS was accepted there. He was very impressed by their mentored research and senior project.

He is going elsewhere because he really didn't like being in the middle of Ohio.

My friend's son goes there and seems to enjoy it. He is a smart, somewhat quirky kid who does well in social environments that foster this.

We visited over spring break and I thought it looked like a great community. My DD took a class though and came away frustrated that the students and professor seemed disengaged. Maybe it was that one class but it turned her off to applying. I thought it seemed like a nice place though.

I'm disappointed that nobody has had anything to say. Seems like a great place.
