Richmond is great for kids. The Virginia Science Museum in Richmond has ASTC reciprocity with the Maryland Science Center, and it's a fabulous science museum with excellent demonstrations. The main location of the Children's Museum of Richmond (CMOR) is next door to the Virgnia Science Museum and that was also nice. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden has a Lego sculpture exhibit this summer. All of these places are within a 10 minute drive of the new Candlewood Suites at 2100 Dickens Road. We stayed there last winter only a few weeks after it opened and it was excellent. We had reservations at the Residence Inn by Marriott next door, but we didn't realize how young child unfriendly the Residence Inn was. The guy who was working at the front desk of the Residence Inn was the one who recommended the Candlewood Suites to us and called over on our behalf. We had a great 1BR suite with a two double beds in the bedroom, a sleep sofa in the LR, a full kitchen and a nice bathroom. It resembled a modern DC 1 BR apartment in a lot of ways. Candlewood Suites does not provide breakfast, but laundry was free as long as you provide your own detergent.

I don't see Va on your list. Try that. Lots to do in VA.
You list alot of big cities, try small towns.

I'd go with you. I like your laid back style.

Is that 2-5 hours round trip or 2-5 hours one-way?

The Omni at Bedford would be good with your kids' ages, there is just enough to do to keep them occupied.

Is there particular hotels you recommend? We prefer not to camp.

So far we have done Williamsburg, Lancaster, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York. New York and Pittsburgh were a little longer than I would have preferred to spend in The car. Looking for something around 2-5 hours. We have two kids ages 7 and 4. Thanks.
