You don't HAVE to give a gift, or you could do something in the $100 range like a nice throw blanket or whatever you think they might need or like. (Something for the kitchen like a kitchen aid attachment or good knife?)

Of the weddings I've been in, I was maid of honor in two (threw bridal shower, bought dress, shoes etc). I gave sheets to one friend and mugs to the other. The one in which I was a bridesmaid, I paid for the dress etc, and to fly across the country, and for hotel/ taxi etc, so that friend did not get a gift. I was considering giving her one after the wedding but she was such a bridezilla and didn't even thank us, so she got nothing.

It's fine not to give a gift, OP. You are investing a lot of your own money so your friend has a nice day.

OP here. About 500 of that is shower plus gift. I do consider (as does modern etiquette) a shower to be a gift.

I'm in a wedding.m next month and have already spent about 700 on the wedding - which includes the dress and shower that the bride asked me to host. I had already purchased a (non returnable) shower gift because I hadn't planned on hosting the shower... Also gave an engagement gift. How much to spend on the actual wedding gift? Wedding is about two hours away so within driving distance but I'll need a hotel room for the night.
