Subject: Gave up BASIS for Hardy
We were matched with Basis for 5th but turned it down too. We're Hardy bound the following year. We know two other families at our school who made the same choice this year and one family who was matched at Basis and took the spot. Whatever works best for each student and family. Basis is a great school from everything I've heard but it's just not for us.

+1. And we turned down Hardy last year (OOB) and chose BASIS.
Both good options. No one needs to justify his or her decision.

Such a silly comment. I have zero regrets about BASIS. I would not send a second kid there if I had regrets. Given all the BASIS bashing and misinformation on this forum, I only wanted to provide a different perspective. My kids love the school. Period. Have a good long weekend.

We turned down Latin to go to Hardy four years ago, and have no regrets. It turned out great for our child, who loved Hardy, thrived academically, and is now in the middle of a successful DCPS high school experience.
OP, don't waste a second worrying about this decision now that you have made it. Your child will do great at Hardy.

Of course, you should do what is best for your kid and every kid is different. As a mom of 5th and 7th graders at BASIS, I agree with previous poster. Honestly, my kids don't have much test anxiety at BASIS. Friday is just math quiz day so it becomes an expected part of each week. As an aside, my daughter never thought she was good at math and science until she got to BASIS (a pretty big issue for girls). Comps are definitely more effort, but they don't do them till 6th grade. FWIW the comprehensive exams aren't given in 5th grade. My DC was shocked after her DCPS to have weekly tests, but it became perfectly normal and non-stressful after a few months. I kind of think it is good to be tested more often so that they are demystified. Especially before they really count, like APs and SATs.

I did the same, no regrets.
My 7th grader is having advanced math and STEM education anyways, plus lots of enrichment in art & music he would have not had access to at Basis. His mind and soul need both. He's very happy and I can see he's receiving a very well'balanced education, in a social setting which is diverse (less so in 6th grade), controlled and disciplined.
All thumbs up.

Depends on what you feel are in the best interest of your child. Both schools have its pros and cons.
