Talk to the teacher, because you can't count on the teacher reading the 504 plan or the IEP.

in my experience (and this is at a "good" DCPS), you need constantly be on them. First, you don't know what information is being relayed to the teacher, or when, or whether it is also being passed on to the specials teachers, the assistant teachers, and aftercare. YOU need to be the coordinator and communicator of the most information information. One time, we updated the 504, but the next year's teacher was given the old plan. If I hadn't emailed her with a summary of the issues, neither of us would have had any idea that she was working off the old plan.

Then, you also have to do follow up throughout the year (parent teacher conferences and perhaps a few other check ins) to make sure the plan is being implemented and that they really understand your DC's needs. And if they don't understand, you need to educate them.

We didn't get the 504 until October of last year. In FCPS, I had to go to local screening with the diagnosis and some additional paperwork before being granted the 504. Once it was approved, I met with the school counselor, the primary teacher and the asst principal to discuss accommodations.

Our DCPS does home visits for all students. We talked to the teacher last year during the home visit. We plan to do the same this August

I sent a quick, short email to the teacher a few day before school started during the in service week.
It wasn't after 1-2 weeks after school starting that she got the official notice from the 504 coordinator for our school so I was glad I was proactive.

It is helpful at beginning of new year to mention to the new teacher that your child has a plan for xyz -- sometimes it takes a while for the administration to get the paperwork distributed in the back to school chaos.

You can offer to come in and meet if the teacher has any questions.

But unless you are seeking changes to the plan there isn't really a reason to have a meeting.

Were you there at the time they drew up the plan? You probably won't be offered another meeting but you can always request one at the start of school.

If your DC has a 504 plan, did you meet with the SN team/coordinator ahead of school to discuss the plan? Did you meet with your DC's teacher(s) ahead of school starting to discuss?
