The posts in Fifty and Over are rarely obnoxious.

I feel it's important to both read and contribute. We don't live in a vacuum and things do change. How else are we to understand the subtle shifts in generations if we don't listen to them and understand their points of view? Sure I speak my mind if I think it will help but there are many posts where I just lurk to gain knowledge. There are often times I shake my head at someone bemoaning a mistake I've already made and survived, but then I remember I did survive and they will too. Not everyone needs wisdom from the last millinium. If you are offended by a younger point of view then maybe it's an opportunity to examine your beliefs not theirs.

No, and I find your age hang-up quite immature. I am 36 and have been on DCUM for a decade, married early and have middle and elementary schoolers. I've experienced quite a bit of life's difficulties and my friends are in the 40-50 years old range.
I have met some extraordinarily mature and thoughtful young adults, and some very naive and off-the-cuff middle-aged people.
Posting anonymously on the internet has more to do with how thoughtful and reasoned your answer is than your physical age.

I am 59, but can tell by the questions and answers on this thread that most are sub-50.

I think there was an off topic "How old are you?" thread a while back and it seemed like everyone was under 40. Many in their twenties.

If the response is wacko, I ignore. I don't really think too much about the characteristics of who posted it. If the response is reasonable or thoughtful, I consider it. Again, I don't think too much about the person behind the words. There's no way to know, so why speculate. Fwiw, I'm 45 but I think people in their 20s and 30s can certainly give good advice. Are they here on dcum? Who knows.

I am over 50, but I often post on other threads because of the topic.
I get one or two reasonable responses, then I leave the thread because of silliness. My husband warns me over and over that the posters are likely in their 20s and 30s, and since I would be reluctant to take advice from anyone that young face to face, then why would I do so anonymously.
Funny enough, the age of the respondent matters more to me than gender, ethnicity, education.
Anyone else have these concerns?
