Well last year PARCC was given in two sessions - March and May. This year it's only being given once in May. As a result, the cut scores will probably have to change yet again since the test is slightly different now. From the school perspective it has gone a bit smoother this year than last year but it is still such a colossal waste of everyone's times. Teachers can't use the data to inform their instruction (like they can with MAPs and MIRL/mClass) and kids aren't getting their intervention groups because every extra body is being used to provide support as proctors and accommodators. This time of year is stressful enough without having to lose all of this instructional time.

I think it took so long last year because they were trying to figure out the cut scores. That's been settled do maybe it won't take to long this year.

I agree that map tests are more informative and show more clear growth. As a reminder, schools are required to provide you with the scores. At my school, the teachers always hesitate but as long as you ask the right person (the reading specialist at our school), she will email them right away. If they ask you to come in, just explain that you are out of time and would prefer they just email them or send them home with your child. Be adamant. Also, I agree that something is going on if your 95tj percentile child is earning a lot if I's- could be attention, or done other disconnect.

I's and N's are about whether they are completing the work, not whether they are capable of completing it. What does the teacher say? is it about attitude or focus?

I'm just gonna ask, do you think the MAP scores for your DC was low and so they were hesitant to send them to you? My kids' MAP scores were very high.

Just as background DC is at a high SES ES that feeds to a W HS. Spouse and I have college degrees but tend introverted and don't do well in confrontational type situations. I have wondered in the past if sometimes the school administration goes out of their way to intimidate us and make our life unpleasant just because we are such easy targets.

I have the Academic Profile as of last November so all I was expecting to see new was the winter test results. I expect the numbers to be similar to past scores - in the 85 to 98 %ile range so towards high-ish but not extraordinary. I wanted the updated report to use as input to some outside testing we are having done. Child scores high-ish on MAP (and PARCC) but gets I's & P's on report card (and N's, I's, and P's on class work). Outside testing is result of our belief child is 2E and school's response that she isn't below grade level so doesn't need help. School says she tries very hard in class but not all kids will get P's on report card. IMHO a child that consistently scores 95+ %ile on MAP math should be capable of at least getting majority P's (i.e. not majority I's) in math on report card.

Intimidate parents? Do you think MCPS staff enjoys giving these state-mandated tests and wields its great power by withholding data from you? What exactly do you need to do with your child's scores?

PARCC results will come home in the fall.

Any school should be able to provide MAP reports if you ask. In the district where I work, they are automatically sent home after each administration (fall, winter, spring) to all parents.

He was supposed to receive extra time but then the PARCC testing started up, his class had "days off" with movie-watching and when he asked about finishing his MAP-M instead, he was told to wait, and then the second round of PARCC started, and since then nothing...

Has anyone heard when we might be able to see scores from the PARCC tests students are taking now? Last year we got them the following winter - is it going to be the same this year?

p.s. yes I tried Google for this question. The closest I found was "final summative file approval" of 7/15/16 at https://marylandassessments.org/ which I think is means the tests have been scored by that date. I think much of the delay last year was determining what the cut scores would be so this "final summative file" date isn't necessarily meaningful for when parents can expect to see scores.
