Go to OC and stay at a hotel. Even hotels have three night minimums over most weekends.

How far is it? When in the hell in this area does distance have anything to do with how long it takes to get somewhere. I go pretty much every weekend in the summer and frequently it takes less time than peoe going to OC. Thursday and Friday nights is not heavy for beach traffic going to OBX.
That 50 or so mile difference, can be negated pretty fast with traffic. So maybe it's a whopping 20-40 closer assuming minimum traffic.

Someone doesn't want to use their vacation time for a week's stay?

Demand out ways supply. Why would I rent my house out for a partial week when there a plenty of people willing to take the whole week. If you want a partial week you need to pay for a full week.

Haha. A weekend in July. At the beach. Good one.

Yep, almost everything is weekly. Try a hotel or campground.

At least with VRBO and Airbnb the people actually own the property. Or they're supposed to anyway.

Take a black light.

In OBX people aren't renting out their primary residences. They are renting out a 2nd home via a managment company. It is the norm to have a 2 or 3 person cleaning crew spend less than 20/30 minutes cleaning a house, even the 10,000 sf ones.

Do what people renting houses do and bring your own linens to hotel.

As others have mentioned OBX is 99% weekly rentals for houses. Most hotels in prime season require a 3-4 night stay.

In July they pretty much all rent by the week. Sometimes in May or early June you might find a weekend but even then it's iffy. There are some not bad hotel/motel/inn options for the weekend.

How do you ensure cleanliness on AirBnB? Just based on the reviews? Same question for VRBO.

Try Airbnb or craigslist. Maybe a realtor, but most people only rent by the week, if not two, during the season.

I'm looking for a beach house for the weekend. Maybe in July. I've found a few places on VRBO, but some require a week's stay. Others do not, but even when I specify a 2 day period, my search results return rentals that have a week minimum stay.

Any way to tweak the search function? Or are there other sites I should be considering?
