I do not think this has anything to do with being ADD.

Trouble focusing , slower at info processing = speaking up is harder

"Are you at Janney? They've pulled the "he's at grade level" b.s. with us for years, and just stripped our 504 after the V.P. promised by email that we had sufficient medical information to keep it.

Yes, we are at Janney ! How did you guess. They do not think he needs any accommodation at all. Anything he got is thanks to his persistent little self, "self-advocating", not thanks to the self satisfied Janney team ! The kid wants to do well FFS, why don't they help him out!"

It was difficult enough trying to work with the special ed coordination. When we got her out of the way and got Linda and Norah involved, we got what we needed (on paper, at least - not all of it was implemented). But I suspect the new principal and vice principal are out to clear the 504/IEP roles - they seem like DCPS lackeys, much more concerned with DCPS agenda than serving the Janney community.

I would be bring in as many people as you can, because it is a consensus decision and they'll bring in more people than you. I also suggest making an extensive list of facts, as 11:43 suggests, and be prepared to push to go through all of it.

Thanks, PP. This is helpful.

What evidence do you have that your child is working harder than normal? Length of time spent on homework, tutors, amount you help him, etc. Come armed with recommendations from professionals and evidence of the ways he is struggling despite his grades.

Focus on what services your son needs to access the curriculum. I know it's hard but some kids struggle even when you give them all of the supports and services they need.

I think the school is planning to say that because he is at grade level, he is not eligible for anything. Any tips?

How old is the child? How did the eligibility process get started? Does your child have a 504 or is he/she receiving any accommodations now?

Exactly how is the child struggling? How is his/her behavior and social interactions?

In what way is your child working so hard? Focus on what supports your dc needs to be successful. Be ready to answer how the ADHD is causing an educational impact and how the supports will help. I am assuming this is for a 504, right?

Good luck!
