Who cares if they get high school credit. Just treat it as an early gap year. They can continue at MCPS as a freshman in high school when they get back.

U.S. citizens who attended a foreign school need interpretation of school documentation, and educational records for placement.
If MCPS, here is who you should contact.

File as a homeschool student?
Have kid send you work samples to show at the review in January.

OP here.

I am thinking about sending DC right after MS. I don't think DC will be able to attend a school which offers IB credit.
If DC spends 9th grade overseas, can DC just be tested and go straight to 10th grade upon return?

Why would they not get credit for attending school in teh other country? Just have to make sure graduation requirements can still be met.

Are we talking about a high school student?

My understanding is that if your child attends a school which offers IB, then they can get credit. If not, it is very hard.
Much easier to just spend a summer overseas.

No neeed. You will enroll your child in your home country, will you?

If so, he can just come back and register with his current group.

I cannot find a definite answer to my question of how MCPS deals with a semester or year-long break in study, when a student spends that time studying abroad. I would like to send my child to my native country for a semester or a year and I do not want to wait till the child is in college. Is there a way to do it without missing a year? Home study with tests at the end the year? Thank you.
