I do not understand why you do not stay at Basis. Honestly, if s/he loves the advanced math and science, why is there a problem with homework and stress? If you are afraid Deal is not good enough, then consider staying at Basis. What reassurance can strangers possibly offer? Can we say that Deal's advanced math and science is sufficiently advanced -- for someone who loves advanced math and science, but maybe does not like a lot of homework? And finds advanced math and science stressful?

Please, you do not have to explain yourself here, OP. But please consider giving some thought to what you actually want for your DC.

OP needs to know more about Deal - presumably she knows Basis. Anyone able to help with they?

So tired of the nonsense that BASIS is all about drills, memorization and cramming. It couldn't be further from the truth. The BASIS bashing is so misdirected given how many kids want to get in and can't get off the wait list.

Kids at Deal can go up to Algebra II. And you can google the Middle Years Science Programme under the IB to see what that is like. It is a very different philosophy than drill, memorize, test, if in fact that is what BASIS does.

Yes OP here-it was a typo, sorry-we have been at Basis for 3 years now, and adore the math and science, and DC does incredibly well, but we are considering leaving for other reasons. Any way we can get the math and science fix at Deal somehow? Se are poised to maove to make the best fit happen, whether DC or MoCo.

Advanced math and science -- if your child is into that -- is the best part of BASIS.

He will be less challenged with those subjects at Deal (depending on what math he's been doing at BASIS) but he will have chances to do things like be in a school play.

Just depends on what makes him happy.

I can't speak to switching, but my daughter's smart, best friend goes to Deal and my daughter go to BASIS. While her friend at Deal likes the IB program, she is very bored in math and science at Deal. Not nearly challenging enough.

Hi-we are thinking of switching our DC from Basis to Deal for 9th grade-DC can handle the social transition, and the reduced homework and stress, but really loves the advanced math and science he has received at BASIS , and we are worried it will not be a happy move to less challenging science courses. Has anyone switched schools for 8th and if so, what worked and didn't?
