This. Text him first if you like, though you should wait a few days, but don't do more than that. Just enough so he knows he won't be shot down if he asks you out and that's it.

This is not to say that getting back into dating will be easy. But if you avoid bs gender roles, you will have more control over your own life and your own feelings.

Please wake me up when 1953 is over. I met my DH, called him a couple of days later and asked about coffee (knees were shaking when I did this). He had an initial good impression but was very shy.
