A pomeranian is likely to stop before mauling you to death though...
Yeah, but you don't want your kid to lose their eye. I had a small dog bite very close to my eye too when I was a kid. Just a little bit closer and I probably would have lost my eye.
Thankfully, I don't remember a thing about it. I love dogs - all sizes. I've met some really sweet and gentle pits before so I can not agree that the entire breed is bad news. Good owners tend to have good dogs - regardless of the breed.
The point is that all dogs have their moments, even good dogs. Pit bulls are capable of inflicting tremendous damage when they bite. I'd rather my kids get a tiny scar in the hairs of their eyebrow than lose their entire face.
No. I came close to losing an eye. I was lucky that didn't happen. And it was a little dog.
Obviously there is a limit to how badly a small dog can hurt someone but don't think that they can't do significant damage to a small child because they can.
Luckily, many family dogs never bite anyone. Ever.

I don't own a pit and won't because of the stigma and liability associated with the breed. But I have several friends who have them and they are great dogs. My kids play with my close friend's beautiful pit all the time.
Most "pitbull attacks" are actually attacks by other breeds mistaken as pits. See if you can find the pitbull.

Be honest. The vast majority of people couldn't tell a pitbull from the many, many other similar looking breeds. Sadly, the American Staffordshire (often labled as pitbull) gets the blame every time a dog even remotely appears to be a bully breed.
Pitbull is NOT a dog breed. American Pitbull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier are breeds. Both are recognized for their outstanding temperament. They are considered "good-natured" and great family pets by the AKC. Sadly, people are quick to label any mix even slightly resembling a bully breed as ",pitbull".
My German Shepherd is much more likely to bite than an American Pitbull Terrier. No one is trying to legislate GSDs. Or Rotties. Or any other larger breed. Look at the AKC temperament tests.
