Thanks everyone for the responses! 24 hours later, 3 doses of the antibiotics and all behaviors are gone!! So crazy!!

Over a couple years my DD got strep a few times with no symptoms other than a stomach ache. Added to that she had some GI issues and so got stomach aches a lot! It was a stressful couple years because I felt she had to be checked for strep anytime the stomach ache flared up.

PP Here: In addition to losing his appetite, our son would often start acting differently - more or less trouble - if he was really sick with strep he was incredibly mellow and actually calm and sweet. If strep was coming on and its wasn't as bad then he'd be a handful. He ended up having strep 13 times in 12 months so we saw a lot of different things happen each time - it was usually when things "weren't normal for him" that another episode was about to happen.

Strep has many ways to present. In some cases your or your child could be a carrier - doctors can test for that. But also be aware that even with antibiotic treatment the strep may not be full treated and can re-appear once the antibiotics wear off. Our ADHD child was to be strep infection free for tonsil removal. Only problem was, even with heavy antibiotic prescribed to alleviate the infection, we could not get him free of strep. The doctors finally acknowledged that until his tonsils were removed he would not be strep-free. His strep symptoms varied from fevers, sore throats, strawberry tongue, rashes, stomach upset, etc. It came down to when he lost his appetite, only wanted liquids we knew another strep infection was blossoming. Once is tonsils were removed he did in fact become strep free.

I agree with the PP about being asymptomatic or nearly. Our DS had a series of unexplained rashes. They weren't itchy and DS wasn't bothered by them so we didn't do anything about them except put some hydrocortisone cream on them. They went away after a couple days and come back a couple weeks later. When I mentioned it to the doctor during a visit for his brother, the doctor immediately ordered a strep test. It was positive. No one else in the family tested positive.

Thank you. Do you know if he is a carrier, will it just keep coming back? His behaviors have already started to subside after 2 doses of the antibiotics..

Could be a carrier. Take the antibiotics and have the child re-tested for strep at the end of the course. If he's feeling good and positive, he is likely a carrier. They might have you come back to test again in a few weeks after that.

DS, 5 years old with ASD diagnosis, has had strep 2 times in the past 3 months. The very weird thing is that he has no typical symptoms, no fever, no red throat, no swollen tonsils, no upset stomach, no rash. We pushed for a strep test from the doctors because he started scripting way more than usual. He will script a line or two a couple times a day but he started doing it for about 45 minutes straight. He also go in trouble at school which was out of the ordinary.

He also says he feels fine and that nothing hurts.

Has anyone else experienced their child getting strep throat with no symptoms other than behavioral? This is very bizarre and concerning to us..
