My kids loved this, too. The Betsy Ross re-enactor was great and the little play area/kitchen in the basement was so fun.

I'm doing NYC with my 7 yo this year. She thrives on loud noises and chaos, though. I do not, but will bear it because she is very excited. We are staying in midtown and doing a play. The advice I was given was that NY can be overwhelming, so not to try to plan too much. We might do the ferry that goes by the Statue of Liberty, but I'm not sure how much she would appreciate actually going up it.

I posted on another thread about how much fun my son has in savannah. Great fore kids.

Agree with Philadelphia. Double decker bus tour, Franklin Institute are awesome.

My 7yo loves NY.

So many great museums and playgrounds.

Just took Dd (8 yr) to NYC. Amtrak.
I booked tix for Ellis and Statue if Liberty then did Time Square (window shopped). Loved the M&M store there!

OP here. He does have minor sensory issues - nothing we're really treating but the subway would be a problem. I spend a lot of time there though and was thinking about it... Statue of Liberty is a good idea - did you stay downtown? Maybe I have been thinking about this wrong - I was thinking midtown and a play. What else?

Circle Line boat tour around Manhattan never fails.

We did Philadelphia at that age and it was great. Taking the train up was a highlight of the trip too.

OP again - to the PP who recommended Savannah and Charleston, what would you do there? I would love to see those places but I'm not sure what would be appealing for kids. Thanks!

I'm doing a Pennsylvania summer with my son this year. He's 9. Philadelphia for a few days in June. Gettysburg for a day or so in July. And then Pittsburgh for a couple of days on the way to and back from Niagara Falls. I've found lots of stuff to do in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Especially the Duquesne Incline railroad in Pittsburgh. I think he will have a blast on that.

Savannah? Charleston? Shennandoah Mountains? I agree that Philly is a lot of fun. Short plane ride to Chicago? Is he old enough for Civil WR Battlefield stuff?

I've promised 7YO DS a special 2 night trip this spring/summer. Last time we went to Boston and had a blast - swan boats, harbor tour, riding the T for hours... Any recommendations to top that? I don't think he is ready for NY - too loud and overwhelming. Thanks for any suggestions!
