I personally woudlnt get my insurance involved at all. Why? It will count as a claim. I just had someone Horne from behind. I called the person's insurance and dealt with it. I didn't want my insurance involved at all.
I disagree - I have USAA and was hit by a truck yesterday. I was stopped and the truck backed out of a spot behind me and the rear of my car. I am not at fault and going through USAA is easy for me. I trust their approved shops and know that I am not going to get the run around. For me time is the most constrained element in my life and USAA and their approved locations will work on my time.
I'm really surprised your insurance company is agreeing to pay for an accident where you were not at fault. That is not how insurance companies work.
State Farm does it, too. I've always just gone to get my car repaired and they are the ones who deal with the other person's insurance and get reimbursed. I've been hit by others about 4 times over the past 25 years, and it's always worked like this.

We have USAA. We know several people who were dropped first accident that was not an expensive accident. If it is something minor we always pay out of pocket first. I'd go through the other persons insurance company first.
File a claim with your insurance company. They will work it with his insurance company.
